8th Annual Guatemala Billfish InvitationalĀ
December 7-11, 2023

What a fantastic time observing in the 8th Annual Guatemala Billfish Invitational. From start-to-finish, it was an amazing experience.
The crews and hospitality at both Pacific Fins and Buena Vista (Jody’s) were very welcoming and top-notch.
The welcoming ceremony was special as IGFTO donated monies for more research the second year in a row. It was great to sit and meet many of the other observers and put faces and names together.
We were taken every morning to Empresa Portuaria Quezel Marina Pez Vela to report for our daily assignment. The captains and crews were eager to start the day and be in place for lines in the water at 8:00 a.m.
I enjoyed the warm sunshine, as I had reports of snow flurries in my hometown in Maryland. Many Sailfish were logged every day totaling 764 released (764), five Blue Marlins and a plethora of Dorado encompassing the three-day tournament.
The beauty of the Pacific Ocean everyday was a different adventure on the water seeing many sea turtles, spinner dolphins, whales.
This was a wonderful billfish tournament, I will cherish my new friendships made, and looking forward to the next adventure with IGFTO.
